Who We Are

We are Trustees of Dooneen Community Association & Historical Society.  Additionally we are custodian's of Dooneen Community Education Centre

We are six people from various backgrounds coming together with the same objective:

  • To maintain and improve Dooneen Community Education Centre for future generations through maintenance plans, fundraising & grant applications
     
  • To promote a space that is inclusive, welcoming & inviting for all people of all ages & backgrounds
     
  • To attract vendors that offer engaging classes or activities promoting physical, mental, cultural & community wellbeing
     
  • To engage with our community and welcome feedback & suggestions for improving our building & service provison

Elected by Dooneen community members at an inaugural community meeting in February 2024 to reopen Dooneen CEC post Covid Pandemic.

Christopher King
Chair

Known by many, a friend to all and always ready to help others.  A talented & busy builder by day, family man and Community Leader.

Christopher is wholly invested in the custodianship and managing of all things related to Dooneen CEC, he is our courageous leader, the captain of the ship.

Julie King
Secretary

A relation to our Captain, Christopher and a well known & respected member of the community.  

Julie; A hard grafter in all regards whether in her Civil Service day job or as our Grants application super ninja.  

Julie is chief organiser, does a great scone and is brilliant craic, not just at committee meetings.

Aileen Cassidy
Treasurer

The eldest Cassidy and the only girl among five brothers, we all know who is boss!  

Aileen is a Primary Teacher and is passionate about children & education, she tutors SEAG Transfer classes in Dooneen CEC.

Aileen handles all things finance related to Dooneen CEC, highly organised and keen to make a difference.

Brendan McGrade
Vice Chair

A neighbour of Dooneen CEC, Brendan is a high energy sportsman and artistically creative individual. His day job in NIE has him meeting folks all over the country ensuring homes & businesses have power.  He always knows who to contact and how to get things done.  

No job is too difficult for Brendan and he is always ready to jump in to get things moving.  Dooneen CEC is an extended member of his family and he is always there to ensure it's wellbeing & growth.

Stephen Kirkpatrick
Vice Secretary

A community 'blow-in' from Lisburn via London but 'blown over' by the warmth, kindness and welcoming of the immediate & surrounding community.

by day manages a UK & IRL division medical device company and has worked with children and families with complex disabilities for over 20 years 

Assists in secretarial, handles Committee Team admin, PR & Social Media. Always keen to lend a hand and fan of a Risk Assessment & Compliance.

Edel McMahon
Vice Treasurer

A Tempo local and advocate for community engagement whether in local sports or  her regular book club. 

Edel is the second teacher in our group with years of experience in engaging, caring & mentoring children & young people.  Edel's generosity of time, passion & energy drives creativity and turns concepts into reality. 

Responsible for assisting with finances and runs our 'Book Nook in the forest'. 

Big promoter of litter responsibility and a clean rural environment. Lives here, loves here!
